boring...
I've been very boring lately... all I can think about is how much I hate scanning stuff in for work this week, and how much I'm fighting with Word's formatting issues, and how much I completely hate getting my nails done (but they're shorter so I can type better and look good for work this week), and how absolutely insane it makes me to be doing all the clean up work so that the screenplay is ready for Nicholls when I want to start work on the new one. Plus... there's a bazillion sticks all over my back yard and I can't get warm... my fingers and nose are constantly frozen.... (Do those things go together? I don't know- in my mind they do!)
Oh... and... we're going to be grandparents in eight months if things continue nicely. It's still early and a bit iffy, I know. My kid and his wife will be great parents... now, if only I can manage being a good grandparent and not overly a pain in the butt with my opinions and stuff. Ah... the letting go process continues. Just when you think you've managed to let go already, you learn a new area to let go in!
We were such horrible new parents- so young (and broke), without a support system, and without coping or managing skills. Anyway you look at it, they'll be better than we were... they gotta be! They can't be worse. We weren't ready to grow up, be responsible, make good decisions, and change our lives so his would be better. We were determined to make him fit our lives and when it didn't work that way we threw the Monopoly set or the dish of peas off the table. While my kid and his wife will have their own struggles as he finishes school and looks for work, they have great management skills and will do what it takes to make it work. Plus... we are here- less than an hour away to pick up the slack once in a while, to be the voice of encouragement and love, and to share the joy of a new little one.
Corned beef in the crockpot, need to add veggies... they're coming to dinner to celebrate their news!
Oh... and we're almost finished with Season 1 of Buffy... the joy of not having cable or an antenna...
Ps... an interesting legal fact that popped up when I was researching "Dancing"... an abused woman who kills her abuser is most likely to serve an average of 15 years while if her spouse kills her, he'll get (on the average) about seven years. Now... that should make you go hmmmm.... especially since 1 in every 3 women live, or have lived, in an abusive relationship.

Sounds boring I agree.
GRANDBABY!!!!!!!!! You'll be an excellent 'grandma' (or whatever you prefer to be called - me, 'granny') 'Kid' turned out well, didn't he?!? (he's coming to celebrate) planning baby blanket in my mind for the beautiful bundle of joy! (I also have a really pretty rainbow baby sweater I've been dying to try) You got your nails done?!? Hell, does this mean I have to dye my hair again?!?
@travelerblue - i have to look "professional" when i'm out doing that whole teacher thing... and we got good at apologizing to the kid so he got good at forgiving!
rainbow baby sweater? sounds precious... and who knows what i'll get called... and i've not dyed my hair yet!!!!
Congratulations on the news of your grandchild. I'm sure you'll spoil it rotten!
Well, you might have tons of sticks in your backyard, but at least your nails look good!!
@piqued - that's what grandkids are for!
i'll pay by the stick when he's old enough to pick them up and not eat them!
I don't worry about my yard until Spring, when it is a pleasure and not a penance to be outside. Who knows, maybe the sticks will get blown away before then! : )
How can you live without cable??? We can't get any kind of signal without it. I have the cheapest plan they offer just to be able to watch the basic channels.
I did enjoy watching Buffy - we watched it all the way through.
A Grandma! How exciting! Congratulations! How nice that you are close enough to share in the joy.
Happy celebrating!
@suzyQ_darnit - we moved closer just in case... but none of us expected it this soon!
and it's not spring???? i don't want to pay for cable so when we've watched everything we own, then we'll think about cable!
Son was born in 'mississippi-i'm-sorry' Since I've been doing the 'box' I feel like a real artist (though I know I'm not). Hair dye?!? 'Discussions' in STL - I'm not one of 'them.' Don't want to get into 'that.' So, when is the Cincy zoo good for you?!? Aquarium?!? I seem to need a 'day' where nothing is wanted or expected...Not the 21st, as that's a day for Jumby - message one of us!!!
Your post made me questioned myself, "I am gonna be a good mother one day?"
Grandbaby! Congrats!
@travelerblue - i'm gone all next week so how about one day the week after that... will have to firm things up closer to the date since it depends on the paid writing gig which should have revision 1 accepted by then and they will be waiting on my first chapters....
@RestlessButterfly - we are all both good and bad parents.... we do our best and it's not good enough, but we apologize for our mistakes, cover them with good love, and put them first... all that helps the bad parenting part work out alright in the end... if you can do those things, you'll probably be a great mother!
@jerjonji - I like to think that I am will become a great mother someday, thanks for your voted of confidence... hehz!
A baby??!! A baby!!! You are gonna have soooo much fun and you will be wonderful grandparents. Love you guys and I hope it warms up soon for you. I hate frozen fingers and noses. Nikki
Congratulations! And my - what a happy kitty! He's so good.
@BoureeMusique - his idea of editing is to eat the screenplay! O.o!
@bluelake1 - a late fall baby!
which means if you guys come for christmas, you can hold him/her...
Can do the @thing only when i'm in Google Chrome...and Xanga makes sure that i don't get none of the e-mails when someone @'s me
Alas, none of my nephews and nieces begatting yet...and if only my guitars could reproduce
You will be the perfect grandmother. I think that you will have a grandson! We can have grandson parties together, ha.
